50-year-old Maquoketa time capsule to be opened at public library

The Maquoketa Public Library is inviting the community to witness the opening of a 50-year-old time capsule next month.

The time capsule was buried 50 years ago in celebration of the bicentennial, or 200 year celebration of the United States. The capsule was rediscovered this year by community members and will be opened in October.

Friends of the Library member Alice Durell says the public is invited to view the opening.

A yearbook and a bank bond are among the items already identified inside the capsule.

The time capsule opening will be Thursday October 22nd at the Maquoketa Public Library. The artifacts will remain on display at the library following the opening for the community to explore.
