Man airlifted with severe burns after explosion in rural Calamus

A man was airlifted after an explosion yesterday afternoon in rural Calamus.

According to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched to 2817 160th Avenue after reports of an explosion.

When first responders arrived they found several burning buildings and vehicles, and an adult man with severe burns near the residence. The man was treated at the scene before being airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals.

During the fire fighting efforts, a member of the Calamus Fire Department developed heat-related symptoms requiring transportation to a local hospital.

The condition and name of the victim have yet to be released.

The incident is under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Fire Marshal Division.
