Election voting on Maquoketa’s school tax levy scheduled for Tuesday Sept. 8th

Voters in the Maquoketa Community School District will be able to vote on a potential increase on the existing Physical Plant and Equipment Levy, or PPEL, next Tuesday.

The proposal would allow for a 34 cent increase to the existing PPEL in place, not an extension of it or implementing a new one. The reason given by the district for this potential increase is because of changes made at the state level for school tax collections.

If passed, the school board would be allowed to raise the existing levy from $1.00 to $1.34 per one-thousand dollars of taxable value.

The election will be held for all voters in the district next Tuesday September 8th.
