KMAQ SPORTS: Results from Thursday 8/27

The Maquoketa girls and boys cross country teams started their new season yesterday at the Hempstead Invitational inside the Dubuque Soccer complex. It was a fantastic start for the lady Cards as they took three medalist spots in the top 15 and 4 runners secured personal records. As a team they finished 3rd in a competitive field of ranked squads. Natalie Hackman was 6th with a 21:11, Natalie Irwin had a 21:57 good for 8th place and 15th for Riley Buttz. Iris Wagner ran a 22:43 and Briley Eggers a 24:46.
The Cardinal boys placed fourth and saw two PR’s, Kai Buttz with a 20:19 and Jasper Bonney a 20:45.
The Cardinals return to the course next Tuesday in Clinton for the School House Open.

The new football season begins tonight with week one play for the eight KMAQ coverage area teams. Our featured game of Maquoketa Football will come from Anamosa as Sports Director Jon Swisher and Dale Scott will have the call starting with pregame coverage at 6:45pm with the Scouting Report program from Radio Iowa, the kick-off slated for 7:15pm and can be heard on 95.1 FM, AM 1320, 92.5 FM, kmaq.com and the KMAQ App.
