Iowa DOT outlines school bus stopping laws ahead of new school year

As next week marks the start of the school year for the area’s districts, school buses will be on the roads picking up and dropping off students.
Buses make frequent stops, and failure to stop and yield for them can result in fines, license penalties, and legal charges. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the rules to follow depend on the type of road.
On any 2 or 3-lane roadway all vehicles must stop regardless of which direction they are traveling. On a 4-lane highway, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the bus are required to stop. Drivers moving in the opposite direction may continue.
