Bellevue City Council votes to approve concrete repaving over asphalt

The pavement and road improvement project north of Bellevue on Highway 52 and 395th Ave has changed.

During Monday’s Bellevue City Council meeting, the County Engineer Jayden Scheckel discussed upgrading the pavement from asphalt to concrete. Concrete carries nearly double the lifespan of asphalt, making it the more durable long-term investment for the roadway.

The Iowa Department of Transportation had already approved the material change, leaving existing grant funding intact. However, it does come at a cost of $119,000 placed on the city.

The council voted unanimously to move forward with the concrete upgrade, deciding that the long-term savings were worth the added cost.
