Bellevue Fire Department approved for designation as non-profit

The Bellevue Fire Department has been approved to establish a nonprofit organization.
The approval came during the Bellevue City Council’s meeting on Monday evening. The designation that existed before did not allow donations to be claimed as tax-deductible, and also limited grant funding that the department was eligible for.
The request was made by the Fire Chief Kent Clasen, who also noted that the board for the non-profit would consist of people who are not members of the fire department.
The request was unanimously approved by the council to establish the non-profit.
