Accident between juvenile bicyclist and motorist in downtown Maquoketa

A juvenile bicyclist was struck by a van in Maquoketa yesterday afternoon.

According to police reports, the juvenile was riding an electric bicycle near the intersection of Main and Platt Streets when the van struck him. The juvenile was not seriously injured and declined ambulance services at the scene.

The Maquoketa Police Department confirms that electric bicycles, e-scooters, and similar vehicles are prohibited from sidewalks on both Main and Platt Streets. Main Street has proper signage on this posted, though the department says Platt Street is being reviewed for additional signage.

No fault or charges have been assigned to either party as the investigation continues.
