Laura Lynne Jansen

Laura Lynne (McConohy) Jansen, 59, of Bettendorf, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, July 20, 2026, in Bettendorf.

Laura was born February 6, 1967 to Dale and Patricia (Schwarz) McConohy. She graduated from Central Community Schools in DeWitt and received her master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She then went on to build a life centered on caring for others through both her family and her career.

Laura served as a high school guidance counselor with the Bettendorf Community School District from 2007 until 2023. She found great fulfillment in helping students navigate life’s challenges, offering encouragement, wisdom, and a listening ear to countless young people.

Laura treasured time with her family, especially her children, David and Elizabeth, and adored being a grandmother. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf and the Quad Cities Women’s Outdoor Club. Laura enjoyed kayaking, golfing, and supporting organizations that made a difference in the lives of children, particularly the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Whether cheering on the Hawkeyes or spending time outdoors, Laura embraced life with enthusiasm and kindness.

Laura will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her ability to truly listen, and the thoughtful guidance she shared with others. She was a trusted confidant who made people feel heard and valued. Her empathy, gentle spirit, and genuine concern for those around her left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She also loved the color pink, a reflection of the warmth and joy she brought into the lives of others, and was a dedicated grandmother whose greatest happiness came from her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, David (Hannah) Jansen of Long Grove and Elizabeth Burnham of Bettendorf; her beloved grandchildren, Rory, Luke, Jack, and Clara; her mother, Patricia “Pat” McConohy of DeWitt; her siblings, Anne (Lee) Casey of Woodbury, Minnesota, Jayne (Mark) Trimble of Batavia, Illinois, Michael (Joanne) McConohy of DeWitt, and Patrick (Amy) McConohy of Davenport; numerous nieces and nephews; along with many devoted friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dale McConohy, paternal grandparents, Thomas “Walter” and Dorothy (Quackenbush) McConohy, and maternal grandparents, Walter and Irene (Wulf) Schwarz.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Villa Nova.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
