Scam targeting food vendors reported in Dubuque area

The state is warning food vendors about a scam that has already claimed two victims in Dubuque.
According to reports, vendors received an email appearing to be involved with a legitimate community event over the holiday weekend. The emails described event details and requested payment for vendor space. When vendors arrived at the events, organizers had no record of them, and their money was gone.
The state recommends vendors contact event organizers directly to confirm any booking before making payment. Food vendors can also receive or verify licensing information through the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing website.
Information collected from the Iowa DIAL press release.
