City Manager Josh Boldt discusses topics brought up in Monday’s public meeting

The Maquoketa City Council held a public meeting at City Hall yesterday evening to discuss a proposed data center in the Highway 61 Industrial Park.

The presentation ran roughly 45 minutes, followed by another 30 minutes of public comment. City Manager Josh Boldt joined our Just Talk podcast today for a full hour to discuss the proposal further.

Boldt addressed the budget restrictions the city and county face under state law restrictions.

That budget pressure is part of what’s driving interest in the data center proposal. The tax revenue it could generate from construction and ongoing utility use is a significant factor in the discussion.

Boldt noted the following figures are estimates, as the proposal is still in early development.

According to city officials, yesterday’s meeting was just the first step in keeping the public informed and involved in the process. No vote has been taken, and officials say none will occur without additional public discussion.
