Firework safety and rules for weekend celebrations

With Independence Day celebrations comes the use of fireworks, and knowing how and when to handle them is important.

Firefighter Matt Balliu wanted to help mitigate any injuries this weekend and provided some tips and information to avoid having to call the fire department.

In addition to general safety, knowing when to light and enjoy fireworks can help avoid fines or issues, especially in city limits. Balliu went over the dates and times that residents in Maquoketa are allowed to detonate fireworks.

While these are the dates and times for Maquoketa, each city will have their own ordinance on firework lighting and usage. Double check your city’s ordinance before lighting, and always handle any fireworks or explosives with caution.
