Victim in Clinton County cold case identified over 50 years later

Clinton County investigators have identified the victim in a cold case stretching back more than 50 years.

In April of 1975, the body of a young woman was discovered in the Mississippi River near the Jackson/Clinton County border. The autopsy determined homicide as the cause of death, but the victim’s identity went unknown for more than 50 years.

Yesterday, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office alongside other agencies identified the victim as 15-year-old Cheryl Lynn Edwards, of Waukegan, Illinois.

Up until now it was believed that Edwards was the longest unidentified Jane Doe in Iowa.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this case should contact Clinton officials by calling 563-212-9211 (Option 2).
