Free meal program through MCSC sees almost 12,000 meals distributed each week

The Maquoketa Community School District had their first free meal giveaway for the summer yesterday, with more times this morning. Because of the weather the district changed some pick up times, with some being available today, Friday June 12th,  from 10:30am to noon.

School Board Secretary Kristy Haxmeier provided additional information on the program, saying that over 850 children are registered for the free meals. That equates to almost 12-thousand meals being packaged and distributed each week, as 7 days of both breakfast and lunch are provided.

With the first week down Kristy said some adjustments may need to be made to ensure that all the children receive the meals needed. The pick up times will be on Thursdays from 2:30-6pm, but as we saw yesterday, weather could impact it, with any changes being announced on the schools Facebook page.
