Maquoketa man arrested on 4th domestic abuse charge

A Maquoketa man was arrested yesterday night on his 4th domestic abuse charge.

50-year-old Robert Barton is accused of assaulting and falsely imprisoning his partner during a disagreement. According to the police report, Barton assaulted and restrained his partner when they attempted to leave their residence, resulting in visible bruising and marks on the victim.

Police arrested Barton the same night and transported him to the Jackson County Jail. Barton is charged with a class D felony of 3rd or subsequent domestic abuse and serious misdemeanor false imprisonment.

Barton has three previous charges of domestic abuse on his record from 2010 and 2013 in both Scott and Dubuque County.
