Ellithorpe Tops Very Tough IMCA Stock Car Field At Maquoketa Speedway - Story by Jerry Mackey

Eastern Iowa Overhead Door hosted the racing program on Saturday night at the quick 1/4 mile dirt, Maquoketa Speedway located on the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Despite a Strong Easterly wind that never subsided the racing was good with multiple lines of racing available on a very slick challenging race track.
The Nelson Tire Recycling IMCA Stock Car feature saw Maquoketa Native, Jacob Ellithorpe score his first win of the season at his hometown race track. Ellithorpe started on the front row but was challenged lap after lap by 5th starting Gage Neal. The two very accomplished IMCA Stock Car drivers put on a great show with the lead being swapped back and forth. At the finish line it was Ellithorpe scoring the win by a very narrow margin ahead of Neal with Casey Shelliam crossing under the checkers in third. The Stock Car main event was red flagged early for a hard roll over by Mitch Current, fortunately Current was not injured in the incident.
The Eastern Iowa Overhead Door IMCA Modifieds main event saw another driver make his way to victory lane for the first time this year. It was a very popular win for Brandon Jewell as he took the 20 lap feature win over a consistently challenging Shane Paris. The Modifieds found the high side the place to be and the line was treacherous as several drivers slipped off the top causing a constant shuffle in positions. At the checkers it was Jewell taking top honors ahead of Paris and Kurt Kile.
A strong field of IMCA Sportmods ran their 15 lap feature with Josh Starr leading the majority of the race before Jarrett Franzen took advantage of a caution and shot by race leader Starr. Franzen was able to hold off Starr on a last lap attempt by Starr to regain the lead. Ty Webster crossed the finish line in third.
The Not Quite Done Yet BBQ IMCA Hobby Stock feature was decided in the tech area as apparent winner Brett Hahlen was DQ’d for an illegal cage in the 14 car. The DQ elevated Brandon White to the win ahead of Maquoketa native Steven Shady with another Maquoketa driver Lukas Short rounding out the top three.
Dyaln Manning made his way to Oly’s Garage victory lane for the first time in 2026 by scoring the feature win in the INEX Legends division. Manning took the lead from Cody Moline as the race passed halfway; Manning drove on to the win ahead of Moline and Jeremiah Davis.
The McMahon Salvage 4 Stocks main event win went to Dustin Forbes who quickly worked to the front from a third row start. Forbes bested a 19 car starting field in taking the win ahead of Michael Lundeen and Brendon Koch.
The Travis Denning Motorsports Crown Victoria Class saw a nice field of 12 drivers take the green for their main event. Ethan “the kid” Kammerude scored the win on Saturday night taking the checkers ahead of Shawn Pappas and Dave Bielenberg.
