Discussion begins on future plans for Young Museum building in Bellevue

The Young Museum in Bellevue is being discussed and reviewed by the city council and museum board for possible sale. The Mayor of Bellevue William Reistroffer said that the museum has significance in the area, having been donated to the city in the 1950s.

Reistroffer went on to say that while the building does hold importance to the community, as it has sat unused, the cost of maintaining the building is putting a strain on the budget. He also said that with the recent property tax changes across the state of Iowa, the issue of cost has become more prevalent.

As he said there this process is just getting started, and that there are members of the community who want it sold, and others who want it maintained. Conversations on this topic have come up in council meetings, with more to be expected.
