Elizabeth Ann Sullivan was born on November 2, 1935, to James J. and Mary Clare (Johnson) Sullivan in Bryant, Iowa. She spent her early childhood on a farm near Bryant before moving to DeWitt at age nine. After attending local one-room schools and living briefly in Sterling, Betty returned to St. Joseph’s in DeWitt and later attended Our Lady of Angels Boarding School for her high school years. On April 16, 1955, Betty was united in marriage to Francis “Frank” Forret at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt. The couple settled in the Calamus area, where they raised their children on the family farm. Betty and Frank remained on the farm until 2010, when they moved into town as their sons, Bill and Chris, continued the family farming tradition.

Betty’s life was defined by her devotion to her loved ones. Her family was her pride and joy, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly the light of her life. Her baking skills in the kitchen were unmatched. She baked her entire life and was best known for desserts and scratch-made dinner rolls.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Bill (Anna Livdans) Forret of Calamus, Mary (Charles) Bailey of Robins, Mike (Tammy) Forret of Calamus, Patrick Forret of Calamus; daughter-in-law Lori Forret of Calamus; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Marie) Forret, Stephanie (Cory) Ricklefs, Jessica (Tyler) Greenfield, Matthew (Rachel) Bailey, Eric (Monica) Bailey, Austin Forret, Kyle (Katie) Forret, David Forret, Sarah Forret, Brian Forret, and Megan Forret; 9 great-grandchildren, Luke “Huggy Bear”, June, Cole, McKenna, Zoey, Joy, Hazel, Sawyer, and Kaylor; as well as a dear cousin, Margaret Orona, and Margaret’s daughters; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Frank; son, Christopher; brother, Rev. Wm. J. Sullivan; her parents; and her in-laws, Edmond and Ella Forret.

Memorials are suggested to New Melleray Abbey, Dubuque, Iowa.
