Arnold Motor Supply Night At Maquoketa Speedway
First Time Winners & A Family Affair At Maquoketa Speedway - Story by Jerry Mackey

The Maquoketa Speedway hosted Arnold Motor Supply night at the races on Saturday with another outstanding car count of 132 drivers in attendance on a chilly early may evening. The racing action included first time winners and a near sweep by the Miles family.
The Eastern Iowa Overhead Door IMCA Modifieds saw Davenport, Iowa hot shoe Spencer Diercks take off from his front row start and sail on to pick up his first win of the year. Diercks held his line and held off a hard charging Jeff (Bone ) Larson for the win. Diercks stated in victory lane, ” I knew Bone was coming and I expected to see him late in the race.” Larson slipped up slightly on the whiter flag allowing Diecks to cross the line more than a car length ahead of the B1 of Larson. Shane Paris took third ahead of Charlie Mohr.
The Nelson Tire Recycling IMCA Stock Cars turned into a family affair on Saturday night as the Miles family took three of the four top spots. Kodey Miles scored his first Maquoketa Speedway victory by topping a very strong field of Stock Car drivers. Pressley Harrington from Oshkosh, WI ran second with Jordan Miles and Jerry Miles rounding out the top four positions.
IMCA Sportmod feature racing saw a wild finish as race leader Jarrett Franzen encountered lapped traffic on the white flag lap. Franzen tried to get low on the track and maneuver lapped traffic, that left the top open for the second place driver, Tyler Maschmann, to make a charge. The T51 of Maschmann scored the win by a car length at the checkers, Maschmann stated in victory lane ” this proves you don’t have to have a $100,000 car to win, this is a 23 year old car and it works just fine.” Franzen settled for second ahead of Nathan Silaggi. The win was Maschmann’s first at the Maquoketa Speedway
The Not Quite Done BBQ Yet IMCA Hobby Stocks saw 28 drivers take the green for their feature event on Saturday night. Dylan Said took control of the race from an outside front row start and Said went on to score his first ever main event at his hometown track. Said held off a hard charging Kile Vohringer at the checkers for the win that was just 1/2 a car length.
The INEX Legends main event saw Marion, Iowa driver Michael Weber ride the high line of the track all the way from the fifth row to the front in just four laps. Weber went on to record the win over week one winner David Eberle.
The Crown Victoria cars made their first visit to Maquoketa on Saturday night and the entry level class provided a very entertaining feature event. Jacob Welter made a last lap pass to take the win by 1/2 a car length ahead of Derrick Dean.
The Midwest Jalopy Club was also in action on Saturday night, 12 old time Jalopies took the green for their A feature. Jayson Blunt drove his 1934 Ford to the win ahead of Jeff Blunt in his 1934 Hudson.
The Maquoketa Speedway will make a pit stop on Saturday, May 9th, no races. Racing will resume on Saturday, May 16th with “Tub O Towels” Night at the races with IMCA Late Models headlining the full night of racing. Hot laps will take to the track at 5:45 with racing to follow.
