Donald “Don” Vickerman

Donald “Don” Vickerman, 81, of Eldridge, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Don was born February 4, 1945, in Platteville, Wisconsin, the son of Junior and Alice (Raisbeck) Vickerman. Don graduated from Hazel Green High School in Wisconsin in 1963 and married his high school sweetheart, Lynda Olds, in 1966. They shared nearly 60 years of marriage and built a life centered on family.

They began in Wisconsin, where Don, a carpenter, built their first home. They later relocated to DeWitt when he joined John Deere Davenport Works in 1975. He retired in 2005 as a production supervisor after 30 years of service. He was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and the respect he earned from his coworkers.

Don was the father of Pat and Laura, and Papa to six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was close to each of them and took pride in being Papa.

He coached his children when they were young and made time for their school and sporting events. That same commitment carried forward to his grandchildren, where he was present for games, performances, and milestones, offering support and encouragement.

For decades, Don was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt, living his faith through quiet service and consistency.

He enjoyed time at home, mowing the lawn, working in the yard, maintaining his cars, and taking on projects, along with western television shows and movies, and rooting for his beloved Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes.

Much of his time was spent with family. Summer trips to Door County, Wisconsin were highlight each year, with stops at Wilson’s for ice cream, Wood Orchard for treats and activities, and time together at the beach at Glidden Lodge. While the destination remained the same, each year brought new memories. The same was true for supper club visits, dinners with his brothers Bill and Darold, and travel throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois to stay connected with extended family.

Don will be remembered for his presence and commitment to those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda; his son, Pat and wife Tracey, and their children Jake (his wife Peyton and their daughter Maryn Marie), Claire (her fiancé Danny McDonough), and Sarah Rose (her fiancé Chase Greene); and his daughter Laura and her husband Hank Jacobsen, and their children Grace, Luke, and Sam. He is also survived by his brothers Bill Vickerman (Kate), Darold Vickerman, Harold Vickerman, Steve Vickerman, and his sister, Marlene Vickerman.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, May 1 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow. A private burial is planned for later.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don’s name to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Clarissa Cook Hospice House for their care and support.

Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Condolences may be expressed at http://www.schultzfuneralhomes.com
