Several local parishes will no longer hold weekend masses

The Archdiocese of Dubuque announced the final pastoral plans.

The plan to be adopted will begin on July 14th of this year, and is supposed to consolidate the resources between different parishes. In the Maquoketa area, four of the seven parishes will no longer hold weekend masses.

Sts. Peter and Paul in Springbrook, Sacred Heart in Oxford Junction, St. Donatus in St. Donatus, and St. Lawrence in Otter Creek will no longer be holding weekend masses.

Sacred Heart in Maquoketa, St. Joseph in Bellevue, and St. Joseph in Preston will be the parishes open for weekend masses in the area.

Archbishop Zinkula says this is being done to support all parishes, as the number of mass attendees is down by nearly half within the last 20 years, impacting revenue available for the church buildings.

More information about the closures across the parish can be found here.
