Diesel spill and injuries occur from accident in Dubuque

An accident that resulted in injuries and a diesel spill occurred early this morning in Dubuque.
Just before 5am, the Dubuque Fire Department, Dubuque Police Department, and Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the intersection of Highway 20 and the NW Arterial for a vehicle accident.
The accident involved a semi-truck hauling diesel and a passenger vehicle. Occupants from both vehicles were injured and transported to local hospitals for treatment. The collision also caused damage to the semi’s tank, spilling the entire contents of diesel onto the roadway, resulting in a hazmat team being required and all lanes of Highway 20 being temporarily closed.
The hazmat team alongside the Dubuque Public Works cleaned up the spill, and the Iowa DNR has been notified of the spill.
Highway 20 was opened again as of 6:40am, with travel resuming as normal.
