Sen. Grassley visits and talks with local business Cornelius Seed

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley was in Jackson County today to tour the operations of Cornelius Seed and to speak with the family and workers.

Sen. Grassley started off the visit by touring the grounds and having plant manager James Cornelius show and explain their business and process. Afterwards, Sen. Grassley went inside and opened up the floor to everyone present to ask questions.

Grassley was asked about the increased cost of fertilizer and materials required to operate a farm and business.  Grassley responded by expressing his own frustration with the actions taken by the administration on tariffs and import costs, especially as it relates to the Iowan farmer.

Grassley went on to say that whenever given the chance, he stresses the importance of the American farmer for the entire nation as well as the world. He stated that as a farmer himself, he understands the struggles that financial uncertainty and higher prices can create. As such, he has been pushing for tariffs to be eliminated to allow for more stability for the farmer.

Grassley has maintained his anti-tariff stance since their implementation, and is one of the most vocal critics for how it affects farmers. He wrapped up the questions about this topic by saying that congressional action will need to be taken for the tariffs to continue, and was skeptical that enough votes would be in favor of the continuation.
