Lorna Irene Swehla

Lorna Irene (Sisbach Calhoun) Swehla, 87, of Bellevue, Iowa, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at Mill Valley Care Center, surrounded by her loving family, just hours before her 88th birthday.

She was born March 28, 1938, in Readstown, Wisconsin, to Lawrence Sisbach and Ione (Gorrell). Lorna grew up in Viroqua, where she developed the strong work ethic and family-first values that guided her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Richard “Dick” Calhoun and Dale Swehla; her daughter, Debrah Calhoun; her grandchild, Nicholas Weimerskirch; and siblings, Eunice Simonson, and Arleigh Sisbach.

Lorna is survived by her children, Randy (Reiko) Calhoun, Beth (Sleeper) Weimerskirch, and Mark (Laura) Calhoun; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, who were her greatest pride; and a brother, Kermit (Judy) Sisbach.

Lorna worked as a CNA at Bellevue Hospital and later owned and operated the Bohemian Village restaurant in Lost Nation. She was known for her caring nature, strong will, and charmingly sassy sense of humor.

At home, she was the heart of the family—a storyteller, camp cook, and talented baker, famous for her cheesecake and the tradition of making lefsa each year. She also enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers and spending time with those she loved.

Above all, Lorna lived for her family, always offering help, warmth, and a welcoming presence to everyone she met.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mill Valley Care Center, Dr. Eric Engelman, and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care.

A private service will be held at a later date to celebrate her life.

Condolences and Cards may be mailed to Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home c/o Lorna Swehla Family at 100 N. 6th Street Bellevue, IA 52031
