Therapy dogs for Maquoketa schools and community

Therapy dogs are a resource that have become more common and useful throughout the years. The utility of them and the cost associated with training them is still not as well known.
Two teachers and members of the community, Jenna Spain and Katelyn Hasenbank spoke about the benefits of having these dogs for the schools and community on Just Talk.
There is a cost with training these dogs and that is one of the biggest obstacles from expanding this program. In order to be able to use grant money for therapy dogs, the handler must be associated with a nonprofit that handles the donations and funds.
These dogs are not just for the schools, but for everyone in the community who may need them. While some are already being utilized in the schools and the area, the demand for them is increasing.
