Two dead in Dubuque motor accident

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office released information on an accident that resulted in two deaths earlier this month.

According to the press release, on March 1st just before 8am, officers and fire rescue responded to an accident at the intersection of the Hwy 20 eastbound off ramp and Sundown Rd.

The investigation has found the driver, 85-year-old Marvin Jarding of Farley, failed to stop at the Sundown Rd intersection after exiting Hwy 20. Marvin traveled through the intersection and into the ditch of the on-ramp, where the vehicle hit multiple large concrete pieces.

Marvin and his 81-year-old wife Mary, who was in the passenger’s seat, sustained serious injuries. Mary was airlifted to Iowa City for treatment and Marvin was transported to MercyOne in Dubuque.

Mary died of her injuries on March 1st, and Marvin died of his injuries on March 7th.

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing according to officials.
