Maquoketa Caves process of making maple sap into syrup open to the public

The personnel at the Maquoketa Caves State Park are processing their maple sap into maple syrup, and you can watch and learn more about the process.
Today and tomorrow they are making the syrup from 8am until 4pm. During that time anyone and everyone is invited to join them in the sugar shack to see the process. I stopped by there earlier this morning as they were getting going and spoke with Scott Dykstra about how much sap they have to process.
They are set up in the sugar shack which is right next to the youth camping grounds. The building itself was built almost a hundred years ago, but has been refurbished and updated into the building that it is now.
The process can take a while, even with the equipment they have in the sugar shack. The public is encouraged to make a trip out to the building to see the process and have them explain in depth all that goes into making the syrup. This syrup will then be used at the pancake breakfast which will be held this fall. So stop by today until 4pm and tomorrow from 8am to 4pm.
