Elevated fire risk in Jackson and surrounding counties

The National Weather Service has issued a notice for an increased fire risk for Eastern Iowa for most of this week.

With the warm temperatures, very dry conditions, and wind speeds, fires are more likely to spread and be harder to extinguish. While burn bans have not been announced by the counties in the area, extra caution should be taken when burning anything outside.

The main time of concern is the afternoons where winds are expected to be the strongest. The strongest winds should be calming down by Thursday, which is when the elevated fire risk is expected to expire according to the National Weather Service.
