The Iowa DNR released information warning about ice conditions as temperatures start to warm.
While ice may appear to be stable, when temperatures increase above freezing, ice is weakened and thinned. Just the course of 24 hours can result in ice that will break when weight is put on.
Whether from ice fishing to traversing with skis or snow mobiles, avoid ice when possible, or check and ensure its stability.
