Jackson County nest contributes to increased peregrine falcon numbers

Jackson County had a successful nesting for its Peregrine Falcons.
The Iowa DNR started the restoration program in 1989, and has tracked the progress ever since. In 2025, 19 of the 20 nests in Iowa were active, 13 were successful, and the Jackson County nest produced two new falcons.
The population of these birds is increasing, but still low enough that annual monitoring and tracking is needed to ensure a stable population.
