How to stay updated on Iowa road conditions

With the call for potential snow again this weekend, information about road travel, safety, and specifics is important.

On Wednesday we have Trooper Joe Donahue on our Just Talk segment to discuss just that topic. With the increase of crashes and closing on major roadways, the threshold for when a road is closed should be known, as well as all the people involved in that decision.

Joe went on to say that there are many different apps and resources to stay up to date and informed about all the road conditions across Iowa. 511 is the DOT website and app that can provide live updated information about the conditions when weather events occur, and is one of the tools Joe talked about.

So keep that website and app in mind when thinking about driving in bad weather. 2025 was the lowest number of traffic deaths in Iowa’s history since 1925, and officials want to see that number continue to drop. So stay safe when driving, check road conditions, and don’t risk it if roads are dangerous.
