Information about rules for hunting on public vs private land

As the deer hunting season is continuing, knowing where you can hunt and what you can do is very important.
As a hunter, any public lands that are designated as public hunting grounds are available during the seasons. You cannot, however, kill or injure a deer on a property that is not publicly available unless you have received permission from the land owner. Something that is allowed however is to collect a deer that may have crossed over into private land. DNR officer Lucas Dever has provided a comment on just this topic.
One very important factor there is the “unarmed” part. If going to collect a deer in a separate property, you must do so without any kind of firearm. If these rules are not followed, the property owner is within their right to charge the hunter(s) with trespassing. DNR officers in Jackson County can, do, and already have done just that for this deer season.
So be safe when hunting, and keep in mind these rules when doing so.
