MCSD gives clarification on conditions for school cancelations

The Maquoketa Community School District made an announcement on Facebook about cold weather delays and cancelations.

When wind chill temperatures fall to -25 to -30 degrees, the National Weather Service typically issues a Wind Chill Warning. When temperatures are so cold that a warning gets issued, that is typically the threshold for delaying or cancelling school.

If temperatures are below zero but not low enough to cancel school, the students will remain inside the buildings during recess. The school district still asks that students have all the winter clothing they need even if staying inside the building for recess.

The district wants to thank everyone for their patience as the winter starts for the school season.
