Today in Local High School Girls Wrestling: Maquoketa, Midland, and Northeast open their season with multiple other schools at the Tipton Girls Wrestling Invitational. The meet will start at 4:30.
Tonight in local high school girls basketball:
Bellevue and Easton Valley will square off in Preston
The Maquoketa Girls Basketball team will hit the road for the first time this season to take on the No. 5 ranked team in Class 5A, Iowa City Liberty. The 3A top-ranked Cardinal girls will try to avenge a 1-point loss from last season. Yesterday in women’s college basketball:
11th-ranked Iowa beat Fairfield 86-72 at home
10th-ranked Iowa State handed Indiana their first loss, 106-95. This was in the Coconut Hoops Blue Heron Division championship held in Fort Meyers, Florida. Audi Crooks put up a program record 47 points in the victory.
Yesterday was a big time wrestling dual for the State of Iowa as #6 Iowa State hosted #3 Iowa at Hilton Coliseum in Ames. The Cyclones ended a 21 year drought by beating the Hawkeyes 20-14. Emphatic wins at 174 and 197 lbs. helped Iowa State finally get over the hump.
In College Football this weekend:
Drake fell to #11 South Dakota 38-17 in the first round of the FCS playoffs to end their season 8-4.
Iowa State snuck by Oklahoma State 20-13 to finish their regular season 8-4.
Iowa thumped Nebraska 40-16 to also close out their regular season 8-4. The Hawkeyes have now won 10 of the last 11 games over the Cornhuskers in their annual Black Friday rivalry game.
