Reminder about emergency and non-emergency numbers

Yesterday a local Jackson County man was arrested for misusing the 911 emergency line.

This is prompting a reminder that 911 is for emergencies only. Calling in with something that is not urgent takes away resources from other people that need them. While mistakes can and do happen, repeated calls for non-emergencies can lead to arrests.

For non-emergency calls in Maquoketa or for Jackson County as a whole, call the dispatch center at: 563-652-2468. All non-emergency calls will be handled by them and taken care of without affecting emergency services.
