Veterans Mental Health Seminar in Jackson County

Yesterday at the Maquoketa Public Library there was a seminar about veterans mental health and resources for it. A coordinator from the Iowa City VA led the conversation.
One of the main topics was suicide prevention, as unfortunately that is one of the most common issues seen by the VA. There are many different avenues for veterans to receive counseling or help with prevention, most completely free to the veteran. One of the best ways the seminar said to help was to speak about it directly and plainly, as avoiding it does more damage than good.
The seminar lasted about two hours, went over many resources that are available in detail, and provided materials for any who went.
