DeWitt house fire results in one death

A structure fire in DeWitt on Friday the 7th resulted in one fatality.

According to the DeWitt Fire Department’s official release, at around 11pm on Friday, the fire department responded to a fire in the 700 block of 4th Street. Crews were on scene until around 5:30 am Saturday.

They found a single story home that was fully ablaze, and immediately started working to contain the fire. The fire department was advised that someone could be in the building, but were unable to go inside the building due to the intensity of the fire.

After the fire was contained fire fighters entered the building and found the person deceased. The fire and its cause are still being investigated, and any more information will be released by the State Fire Marshal.
