How iJAG helps our community

The Maquoketa Middle School is having a Thanksgiving Food Drive that is being organized and ran by the iJAG at the school.
KMAQ was able to have Moesha Flake who started the program at the school. While she discussed the food drive, she also discussed iJAG as a whole and what it is. The program is aimed to help give students the opportunity to gather skills and experience that they can help them in the future.
Flake went on to say that one of the main ways iJAG helps students is getting them involved in their community. They have a specific number of community service hours that they are required to reach. Many students record hours double of what is required, with all of them helping the community through their efforts.
While this helps the community it is also extremely helpful for the students. Students who participate in the program and continue on with it throughout their education have a 92 percent graduation rate. This is a direct result of the opportunities and experience that the programs helps the students to establish.
The Thanksgiving food drive is just one of the programs that they do, and the first of many for this school year. They will be having a larger group project every month, with all of them being geared towards helping the community while allowing students the opportunity to gain valuable skills.
