Abigail Hartmann

Abigail Hartmann, 42, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 31, 2025, in Clinton.
Abigail Nancy Hartmann was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1982, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Carmen Ketelsen and Curtis Hartmann. Abbey was baptized into the Lutheran Faith on January 23, 1983. Her Godparents were Mitzie Blanchard and Tammy Shirley. She was confirmed on March 23, 1997. Abbey graduated from Central Community Schools in DeWitt in 2001. She attended welding classes at Scott Community College.
On February 18, 2016, she gave birth to her wonderful daughter, Avery Jo Hartmann Locey. Avery was the light of her life. They spent many hours going for long walks, and going to parks. She enjoyed finding gifts for Avery, and they enjoyed window shopping in DeWitt, especially looking at the “wiggles,” (solar powered dancing toys). Abbey dearly loved spending time with her family during family get-togethers, holidays, and especially thanksgiving. Her favorite “birthday cake” was pecan pie. She was a talented artist and made beautiful paintings for her daughter.
In 1990, Abbey was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and received treatment at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. She fought the disease successfully and valiantly for being only 7 years old. She spent many summers attending Heart Connection Camp, where she was able to go up in hot air ballon rides, do rock climbing and rappelling, and meet the New Kid’s On The Block.
Abbey was very athletically inclined, and in earlier years enjoyed many sports, including soccer, track, softball, and basketball. She loved the Tennessee Titans, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved doing crafts, and had a knack for repurposing all sorts of materials. She always believed in people, and was a huge supporter of her sister, Becca.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Avery Jo; her mother, Carmen Ketelsen of Charlotte, stepfather, Dennis Gisel of DeWitt, father, Curtis (Diane) Hartmann; siblings, Christopher (Hadley) Hartmann of New York City, Maggie (Joe) Taylor of New York City, Andrew (Lynse) Gisel of Davenport, Becca Gisel of DeWitt, Jessica Hartmann, and Maik Kecinski of Wilmington, Delaware; nephews, William, James, and Alexander Hartmann, Jace and Tate Gisel, Jonathan and Julian Taylor, and a niece, Cecelia Taylor; and maternal grandmother, Betty Jo Ketelsen of DeWitt; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and close friend, Leroy Young.
