James Woolard Sr.

James Woolard Sr., 78, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Fieldstone of DeWitt, surrounded by the love of his family.

James Wilson Woolard was born September 26, 1947, in Washington, NC, to James and Mary Woolard. In 1965, Jim graduated from high school in Bath, NC. He was in the National Guard for one year before enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving in Viet Nam. Jim married Dixie Bentrott on January 11, 1969, in Wheatland, Iowa. Jim started his truck driving career at Premium Oil Co. in Wheatland, and retired from Transport America after 18 years of driving semi.

Jim was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Wheatland Jaycees, served on the Wheatland Town Council, was a Cub Scout leader, and a coach for his son’s youth baseball teams. Jim enjoyed all of his kids’ events, whether catching a ball, shooting a basket, or attending a band concert. Later, he returned to being just as active in his grandchildren’s lives, attending as many events and cheering them on as much as he could. He also enjoyed many outdoor activities with his family, and was an avid NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dixie; children, Shannon (Glenn) Mentzer of DeWitt, and James Jr. of DeWitt; grandchildren, Morgan (Alec), Meredith, and James II; great-grandchildren, AJ and Grace; a sister, Theacher Barber, and brother, Murphy Woolard.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Jay, brother-in-law, Mayo Barber.

Following Jim’s wishes, no services will be held.

Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com
