Local Sports Update – Monday, Oct 27

Friday night was the first round of the playoff football in Class 2A and below and we had 3 area teams in action:
In Class 1A, Northeast fell to 3rd ranked Iowa City Regina 69-0, the Rebels finish 3-6 on the season.
In 8-player, Easton Valley took down Belle Plaine in a high scoring game, 80-52. The Riverhawks advance to play 3rd-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck on the road Friday night.
And in Class 2A Bellevue lost to Waukon 34-13, ultimately putting an end to the Comets season, as they finish 7-2, dropping their final 2 games.
Friday night was also the final week of the regular season in class 3A and above and 10th-ranked Central DeWitt squeezed out a close home win to secure a playoff spot as they beat Center Point-Urbana 27-24. The Sabers will travel to Dubuque to take on Wahlert Catholic Friday night, we’ll have play-by-play coverage of that game right here on KMAQ.
Maquoketa wrapped up their season falling to 6th-ranked Wahlert Catholic 56-8 in a game heard on KMAQ. The Cardinals end their 2025 campaign with a 1-8 record for the second consecutive year.
Tonight in local high school volleyball: One area team remains standing as Bellevue hosts Cascade for a regional semifinal.
In the MLB: Game 3 of the World Series is tonight. The LA Dodgers tied the series at 1 game apiece with a 5-1 win on Saturday. The series now comes back to Los Angeles for the next three games. Tonight’s game begins at 7.
