Local Sports Update – Wed. Oct 22

Last night was the quarterfinal round of regional volleyball in Class 3 and 4A and we had a couple area teams in action:

In Class 4A Region 8, Central DeWitt fell to Clinton at home in a back and forth 5 set match where the 5th set’s final score was 16-14! The Sabers end their season with an overall record of 13-14.

In Class 3A Region 2, the Maquoketa Cardinals were eliminated in 4 sets by Wilton. The one set they did win was their largest margin of victory on the season, a 25-10 win in the third set, right after Wilton scored 10 straight points to erase a 6 point Cardinal lead and win the second set. Maquoketa impressively ends their 2025 season 10-15, after an 0-11 start.

Tonight is the Quarterfinal Round in Class 1 and 2A Volleyball and we have 4 area teams in action:

Midland goes to Clarence to take on North Cedar

Calamus-Wheatland plays at Springville

Northeast travels to Delhi to face Maquoketa Valley

Bellevue plays host to Columbus

Today the Maquoketa boys and girls cross country teams will be competing at the state qualifying meet in Manchester at Hart Ridge Golf Course. The girls run at 4 and the boys will follow. Good Luck to the Cardinals!
