SHIIP information for Medicare

For those who are needing medicare advice and assistance, now is the time to seek it. The Senior Health Insurance Information Program, or SHIIP, offers free counseling to anyone who requests it. Two of the members were on KMAQ’s Just Talk segment talking about what they offer.

Appointments for consultation opened in September, and they are already starting to assist those who are scheduled. They are in active enrollment which allows for a change in plan or coverage. They comb through all the available options that you are eligible for. Their goal is to find the most affordable option that also offers the most coverage for your needs.

For those who are still trying to get an appointment date set, be aware of the number that is calling you. Often the number calling you will be a home phone of one of the volunteer schedulers.

While it’s good to be cautious of numbers you aren’t familiar with, if you are expecting a call from SHIIP, keep this in mind.

If you would like to hear the full interview, please visit the Just Talk section of our website.
