Clinton Sheriff’s Office warns about recent scam calls

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement about recent scam calls.

On Oct. 16th reports came in about people claiming to be the Clinton Sheriff Deputies to scare and scam citizens. The callers are using the actual names of real employees and threatening arrest for failure to appear for jury duty. They then say it can be paid off with payments through gift cards.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office does not collect fines over the phone, and all legitimate payments are done through the Clinton County Clerk of Court. No law enforcement agency will ever request payments via gift cards, e-transfers, or pre-paid debit cards.

Anyone who receives these kinds of calls should hang up immediately. Never give out any sensitive information, personal or financial to these calls. If you have given information or payment to the call, contact your local law enforcement department.

Information comes from the official press release from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.
