Local Sports Update – Friday Oct 3

 

Yesterday the Maquoketa cross country team competed at the Iowa City High meet: Izzy Hardin took home yet another win, with a PR time of 18:07. On the boys side: Tucker Moore and Jasper Bonney had PR runs. Bonney ran a time of 21:34 and Moore ran a 25:24. Gavin Machael shattered his previous season best with a time of 19:18! 

 

Last night in local high school volleyball:

Bellevue is swept in 3 sets by 6th-ranked Dyersville Beckman Catholic

Northeast sweeps Camanche in 3 sets 

Easton Valley is swept in 3 sets by North Cedar

The Maquoketa Cardinals take down Monticello in an exciting 5-set match that was heard on KMAQ. It was senior night, and the Cardinal ladies picked up their first home win and first conference win.

 

Tonight in local high school football:

Bellevue puts their undefeated record up against their toughest opponent yet as they travel to Alburnett to take on the 9th-ranked Pirates.

Northeast faces Lisbon on the road

Midland hosts Maquoketa Valley in a battle of 3-2 teams 

Central DeWitt plays Dubuque Wahlert Catholic at the Rock Bowl

Calamus-Wheatland plays at Central City 

A big homecoming matchup as 6th-ranked Easton Valley plays host to 7th-ranked Edgewood-Colesburg in 8-player.

The Maquoketa Cardinals have their homecoming matchup with Davenport Assumption. Listen to that game on KMAQ, pregame coverage will start around 7:00. 

 

Yesterday the MLB Wild Card rounds wrapped up and the best-of-5 Divisional Series are now set: 

In the American League: The Detroit Tigers top the Cleveland Guardians 6-3, they will take on the 2-seed Seattle Mariners. And the New York Yankees shut out the Boston Red Sox 4-0, thanks to 8 shutout innings and 12 strikeouts from rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler. The Yanks will take on another division opponent now as they are matched up with the 1-seed Toronto Blue Jays.  

In the National League: The Chicago Cubs are moving on as they defeat the San Diego Padres 3-1. Their division rival, the top-seeded Milwaukee Brewers await them in the next round. And the Los Angeles Dodgers will face the Philadelphia Phillies after sweeping the Reds on Tuesday and Wednesday. All 4 game 1s of the divisional series are set to be played tomorrow.
