Ricky Bauer

Rick “Ranger” Bauer, 69, of Olin, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Ricky Lee “Ranger” Bauer was born February 13, 1956, in DeWitt, Iowa to Leroy and Marilyn (Frett) Bauer. He attended high school in DeWitt. Rick worked for Hoof Industries in Maquoketa and later retired from Medplast in Monticello. Rick married Mary Thomas in 1979, and they were blessed with two daughters, Amber and Lindsay. He later married Joy Shady in 1987, and they were blessed with a son, Zachary.

Rick found his greatest joy outdoors—wandering timber for mushrooms, hunting for rocks, casting a line, and pitching a tent under the stars. He loved duck season in the fall, float trips on the Maquoketa River, and long nights by the campfire with old friends and a beer or two. At home he was a maker, crafting wood projects and several of his own canes, and he was rarely far from his guitar or a favorite classic rock record. More than anything, Rick treasured time with his loved ones—his children, family, and friends. He was so very proud and delighted to be able to meet his baby great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his children, Amber (Montell) Johnson of Rock Island, Illinois, Lindsay Bauer of Davenport, Zachary Bauer of Bettendorf, and step-daughter Jennifer (David) Robinson of Reynolds, Illinois; grandchildren, Hannah (Darion Eldridge) Cousins and Andrew Cousins, Kaylyn Gilmore and Kinsley Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Kalilah; siblings, Cindy, Kevin, Angie, and Kim; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Christine “Babe”, and a step-son, Jeffrey.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with Visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Olin Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com
