Maquoketa woman accused of being on phone during fatal crash

A Maquoketa woman is accused of being on her phone when involved in a fatal crash with a semi.

27-year-old Kaylynn Knight of Maquoketa rear ended a semi-trailer and its driver on August 11th on Highway 61. According to the police report and investigation, Knight was playing a game on her phone while also listening to Netflix.

The airbag control also showed that she was traveling at 73mph and did not brake before the crash. Eye witness accounts also state that she did not brake before the crash. Police during their investigation found that Knight had around 11 seconds from when the semi was visible to the time of the crash to avoid the collision.

Knight is being charged with Homicide by Vehicle, Using an Electronic Device While Driving, Reckless Driving, Failure to Move over for Stationary Vehicles, and Failure to Maintain Control.
