Funds needed for splash pad construction in Maquoketa

Funds are needing to be raised for a splash pad to be built in the City of Maquoketa.

Today on Just Talk I spoke with Scott Warren from the YMCA about the splash pad. He mentioned that over a million dollars needs to be raised in 6 weeks for the construction costs. The City of Maquoketa has approved a 600-thousand dollar grant for the project, but more is needed to be raised by the community.

An important note is that the splash pad will not be owned by the YMCA, but rather by the City of Maquoketa, with the YMCA providing some services like water treatment. Because it will be owned by the city, it will be free and open to the public. The splash pad will be large and allow for children and parents a chance to relax and have fun within their community. Scott also mentioned that it would help boost tourism and people coming into town, which would help all the businesses in the area.

Anyone interested in donating should contact Scott Warren at the YMCA. Donating to the YMCA for the splash pad is able to be written off on taxes, while donations to the city for the same project will not.
