Pheasant population in Iowa at 20 year high

The Pheasant population in Iowa has reached a record high.
Those looking forward to pheasant season will be happy to learn that the population is at a 20-year high. Over 600-thousand birds were harvested in 2023, and the DNR is expecting up to 700-thousand birds to be able to be hunted. With Jackson County having many prairies, grasses, and locations for the birds to roost and nest in, hunting is expected to be good.
Pheasant season is open on October 25th, with youth hunting being on October 18th an 19th.
