Maquoketa National Night Out – 9/3

The National Night Out event occurred yesterday here in Maquoketa. The event’s purpose is to help build relationships between community members and the people who protect and serve that community.

All of the services were present at the event yesterday, from EMS, to firefighters, jailors, police officers, and even state troopers. Free food was given to all those who came and plenty of games and activities were there for a fun night out with the family.

One of the main attractions was a military Humvee that was present at the park that the US Army brought for the night out. Everyone from kids to adults were over by it and were able to get a look at the vehicle, and even get inside of it.

A small petting zoo with goats was in the park as well, and the firefighters had a targeting game with their firehouse. Many more activities were there as well, and the crowd was enjoying the games, food, and community building of the event.

I was able to talk with the Sheriff during the festivities as he was present for the whole event. I managed to get a word from him about the event, and he’s what he had to say.

Officials were serving the food, talking and engaging with members of the community, and showing that behind the badge they are humans just like the rest of us.
